Our Racial Harmony theme was inspired by the story Everybody Cooks Rice by Norah Dooley. In the story, the main character is introduced to a variety of cultures through the different rice dishes prepared by families in her neighbourhood.

At Edelweiss Preschool, the children were introduced to different types of grains such as glutinous, basmati and short-grain rice. They learned that these grains are cooked in different ways across cultures and explored the texture and smell of the grains.

As part of the experience, the children observed two mothers demonstrating how to make gimbap and dumplings. It was an enjoyable opportunity for the children to learn about different cultures and appreciate how food can bring people together.
